I have been doing a time study of my juicing: the time it takes to get my veggies out, wash them, trim them, push them through the omega 8004 juicer, bottle and cleanup the machine and the mess. That time is about 25 minutes without pressing. To press my juice adds about 5-6 more minutes to my juicing time. I yield about 40 ozs without pressing and 50 ozs with pressing. Either way it is about the same ratio of time/ to juice 1.60 ozs/ per minute of time spent.
Here's the catch, why waste your time, money and all the energy it takes to grow, transport acquire your veggies! One still spends the same amount of money to buy the veggies, but yields 25% less juice. One still spends the same time to get the veggies from the store, garden or greenhouse but yields 25% less juice. We are wasting 20% of the energy inputs to produce them and the farmers time by not pressing.
Just like how gas mileage fuel efficiency standards are imposed by the government; I think we need efficiency standards for juice yields. JUST KIDDING, but it sure is "more green" to not waste your veggies and money by pressing your veggies. Where else can you help to preserve the environment by 20%!
An added bonus I feel is the pressed juice tastes the best to me and "they" say it is better for you then unpressed juice. To see more check out my video at: http://youtu.be/IQrVu41W5_I
